For many customers, what is needed above all is certainty. A guarantee that the system will work as advertised and be supported after installation: support for regular upgrades of the software and the system as well as advice and assistance if or when difficulties are encountered. The CARISS 'brand' is not about the software, but the pre- and post-installation support and services that come with it. The most important element in the success of a full CARISS installation is the skill of the staff involved.
CARISS installations are preceded by a site survey to evaluate the current infrastructure and likely sizing requirements before proceeding to a full quote. The processor and memory specification of the application servers needs to be carefully predicted and it is essential that there is adequate networking support between the servers and the desktops. Printing, email, web and FTP requirements are also established as is the feasibility of reusing any client terminals.
Upon acceptance of the quote, remedial work on the network infrastructure will be carried out, the server cluster will be commissioned and tested in advance of being shipped to site. On-site work is kept to a minimum to reduce costs. Remote access to the servers is a must, permitting most support and maintenance tasks to be performed remotely and eliminating many site visits that would otherwise be necessary.
